At some point recently I was scrolling the list of releases on the New Red Archives record label, and I came across the name of a band that I'd heard a friend mention a few months ago. The band was called P.E.D. and their LP, 'Post Ejaculation Depression' was released as New Red Archives catalog number 1 back in 1988. There was a copy for sale in the UK for only £5 still in shrinkwrap, so I figured I'd pick it up.
Considering the age of this record, it is in really great shape. Coincidentally I read a comment on a post this week from somebody saying that you should always take the shrinkwrap off, but I strongly disagree with that. This record feels like it just arrived fresh from the label, and I'm sure that the shrinkwrap is partly to thank.
I tried to find info online about this band, but to no avail. Pretty much the only thing I could find was that they were from New Jersey, and Rob Fish (from 108 / Ressurection / Release) thinks that they were great. Other than that... nothing.
This is a hard record to describe. It's hardcore but kinda goofy in some places, but super catchy in others. It definitely sounds a little dated, but I'm kinda into 80s bands so that's fine. It reminds me of the Ill Repute record that I bought last year. It's great fun. If you fancy checking it out, try the song 'Aye, Aye, Aye" The Pirate Said'.

i think chris ross from nora, rotp , ensign, etc played in PED. to this day i still enjoy their one song, the frog song. i think that was on the 7".
Hey! Sam Shiffman from the band P.E.D. I was actually looking for a link for the band to send a friend to prove that we actually existed and came across this blog and it made me very happy as all I ever wanted was to be in an obscure not really remembered punk band, that someone stumble over in a cut out bin. Anyhoo, P.E.D. are all still friends (even the ones of us who are dead….) Chris Ross is indeed also in Nora and a million other bands… Pete Horvath who is on the record but only on a couple of songs but has always been a member is in The Anderson Council, one of Little Steven’s Favorite bands. I did a German Record with the NJ band The Blisters called Pissed to Meet Me. One of our most famous members, Jack Terricloth of The World Inferno Friendship Society passed away three Years ago… We were always more of a collection of friends than a “real” band. Myself and Chris are the only real steady members… and I think I am the only one who has been around for the whole ride. If you have any questions… feel free to contact me @ shiffmsa@gmail.com.
The only other interesting fact might be that the record was coproduced by myself and Nicky Garett of the UK Subs and Engineered by Ryk Oakley of Kraut fame. A couple of years later in 1991, I started a singles only record label called COMPLEX Records and the last record I put out was the first record by a new band who just moved to town, the brother of a friend of mine… The Bouncing Souls… They didn’t really last too long unfortunately.
