So here it is... the latest LP from Pelican, entitled 'What We All Come To Need'.
Rather than make 200 different colours, there's only one limited version of this one - 1,000 copies on red vinyl only available from Southern Lord directly.
Rather unsurprisingly, this comes in a gatefold sleeve. The photography is beautiful:
Consensus on this band seems to be that they peaked with their second album, 'The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw'. That record was, at the time, different, new and fresh. The songs were over ten minutes. Then the third album ('City of Echoes') came out and the songs were around 5 minutes long, and they just didn't sound as interesting. This one, their fourth album, sits somewhere in the middle. From the opening of the first song, it just feels right. It sounds heavy and hard, and the first time I heard it I was like "YES! They're back!" after that poor last record. I've played this through every day for the past couple of weeks and I am loving it. And most surprising of all, one songs has vocals... and it's damn good! Who knows where this will lead them next, but I can't wait to find out. This is going to be my theme to this summer, I can just tell.
Oh yeah, shame that Southern Lord can't removing records from sleeves for the mail. My copy is split on both sides:

There are more, I did the subscription, clear red/black splatter out 450
it is a shame and fucking annoying when labels can't be arsed removing records from sleeves especially when you leave clear instructions in the paypal notes.
R is right. there's the subscription version on the splatter and there may even be a clear version too. SL isn't too forward with their pressing info or even announcing colored vinyl. for instance, the Abruptum LP came on a silver/black mix yet SL made no mention of it on the site nor was it a mail-order only deal.
on a side note, i lost interest in Pelican when 'the fire...' hit but i dig this album a fair amount. has a definite nod to the first LP.
I have no idea what subscription you are talking about, R. However, I now feel like an amateur for saying that there is only one colour.
I hate splatter colours though, so I'm not going to lose sleep over this one.

Haha, no, you tons about records, but like mentioned before Southern Lord is all over the place. For a few years I was working on my Southern Lord collection. Too annoying ha. They offered a vinyl subscription, 7 records, plus some random bonus stuff for $170 shipped within the US. All records came on an exclusive color limited to 500, I guess they did not sell 500 subscriptions, because I got an email saying my Trap Them record was limited to 450 or something.
Like CJA said I think that there may be a clear too. Maybe clear was for distros? Who knows with Southern Lord though. They usually keep it to one color and a black release though, lately they getting wild.
I do enjoy "What We All Come To Need", but I am by no means a Pelican fan.
