American Nightmare 'X' LP

When I picked up the 2nd American Nightmare 7" on orange a couple of months back, it occurred to me that the AN record I wanted most wasn't even on my want list. In fact, I'd almost forgotten it existed. Or rather, I'd given up trying to get it because I knew that it would command much more than I considered it to be worth. But when I thought about it recently, I decided that I wanted it, and set about trying to find one. And here we are:

I remember when this record came out. I already owned the 7"s and was excited for the LP. I managed to get two different colour copies from Equal Vision at the time. And then, a few weeks later, I learnt of the existence of this special LP. I'm not entirely sure, but I think that this is the "friends press" of 100 copies, so-called because these things were made exclusively for the band and their friends (I think this was the first time that Equal Vision had pressed an exclusive colour for the band, but it certainly wasn't the last time).

When it came out I thought the purple 'X' was supposed to signify straight edge. No idea if that was the case or not. But if that WAS supposed to be the case, it would have been good if it actually looked like an X rather than some kind of roadkill.

Very cool score, though this LP was pretty disappointing. Just FYI: Pretty sure most of the AN dudes had broken by the time this LP came out.

Dude, that is one VERY tough to score record! Never mind the cost, I never see them pop up often.
If you ever become disillusioned with hardcore and the crass materialism of collecting, please remember to throw some love my way and sell me it!

I lost interest in AN when this album came out. A full length LP could not capture the fire of those first two 7 inches. Then by the time they changed their name, I couldn't even be bothered to check out any of the GUTG stuff. Not really about AN....but I do remember wrestling to get the mic away from Wes during a Fastbreak show to try and sing Hate Your Way.

PS. regardless of what I think of the band, there is no denying that this is a pretty epic score.

From what I remember, the record was supposed to look like blood spatter, hence the nickname of the record, NOT a big X or anything to do with straight edge. The plant I think said the could do it, but it ended up being a big mess.

Yeah, I always thought this was the one referred to as 'blood splatter', although I could never figure out why. I'm not sure why a cross is meant to be anything like some kind of blood splattering. Stupid name. I often wondered whether 'blood splatter' was supposed to refer to the dark red color vinyl that was also pressed, and at some point people just got mixed up between that pressing and this one. I mean, you know how it is, people are pretty stupid sometimes...
